D.O. Calatayud
The Denominación de Origen Calatayud was created in 1982. This is the youngest D.O. in Aragón.
The’Aragon region is the cradle of old vines.
Around Calatayudthis red grape is grown in altitude between 800 and 1000 meters above the sea level
Rainfall are unusual, near 400 mm a year and the climate is continental-Mediterranean type. The summers are scorching and winters are cold .
Densities of planting are traditionally very low, between 1 000 and 2 000 vines per hectare and the vines are bush trained.
Yields are very low, can sometimes be lower than 15 hl / ha.
Sugars concentrations are very high (often over 16 % alc. probable) and altitude allows the maintenance of outstanding natural acidity.
